"The mountain shooter looks like an interesting sling, but I can't just go on pretending like I don't have a sling problem forever. It has to stop somewhere. I will give the Ching a try though. Then I will go into Slings Anonymous the next day. Or maybe the day after that." 1/14/12 http://artoftherifle.blogspot.com/2011/10/bipod-prone.html?showComment=1326596765413#c3079435954369844132
My name is Rifleslinger, and I'm addicted to rifle slings.
I hear you brother! The first step is to admit you have a problem :)
ReplyDeleteAnother idea I like the sound of (already posted by anonymous in the comments to your ching sling review) is the flush-mounting Millet/Pachmayr style sling swivel bases as utilised on the Steyr Scout rifle. To my mind the advantages (aside from asthetics) are:
1) less bulky sling swivel hardware when sling attached
2) quicker/easier removal of the sling ...
Which leads me to this.... After getting used to having a sling on your rifle all the time, try removing it and see what a svelte and handy stick your rifle becomes in your hands. Jeff Cooper repeatedly mentioned removing his sling altogether when hunting/following up game in close cover where only a quick offhand shot was likely.
If you subscribe to this view then the flush mounted sling hardware has much to recommend it.
You can run from the problem.
ReplyDeleteYou can hide from the problem.
Or you can face the problem.
Break out the needle some thread, try stuff until the rest off us all have to buy a RSsling.
